Mark began his musical training at an early age, starting with piano and adding the rest of the instruments (yep, pretty much all of them) as he went along. He completed his Music Education degree at Western Baptist College, adding a M.Ed. from Lesley University. Conducting and performing internationally, he deepened a love for ethnic musical styles and incorporates them into his teaching.
Along the way, he has made use of his composition, arranging and songwriting skills, recording two albums (“Infusion” and “The Lazarus Project”) which reflect his jazz influences. He has worked with several youth theater productions, directing Broadway Jr. shows as an elementary school teacher and serving as vocal arranger/coach for the Las Vegas Centennial production of John Rothman’s “Tapestry”.
Mark enjoys blending traditional pedagogy with current and world styles, with a touch of parody to keep things fun. While his training is predominantly classical, according to his students, “Mr. Leamy Rocks!” He has been nominated for a Grammy Award for Music Education, and was a top-5 finalist for the 2018 Nevada Teacher of the Year.
